A Note from Jordyn
In February of 2020 I was returning from a weekend in LA with my best friend. We shopped, ate, drank, saw a comedy show, and inevitably started throwing out future destination ideas. The next month we entered a global pandemic.
Up until this moment I had spent every extra dollar and PTO day I had on traveling. Going to new places, trying new foods, and seeing new sights somehow made the large, intimidating world feel smaller and easier to navigate. *
In the wake of the pandemic with no clear path to escape Southern Indiana for an undetermined amount of time brought on a whole new level of anxiety to my early 20’s. **
Fortunately, the forced slow down and (mostly) temporary closures of my favorite restaurants drove me to find some new distractions. Cooking and writing. And doing the New York Times Puzzles, but that isn’t relevant here.
I began reflecting on the most memorable moments of my travel, from short roadtrips to half the world away, and kept coming back to food. So, I started attempting to recreate my favorite meals while simultaneously learning how identify and operate kitchen appliances.
Sort of kidding, sort of not. My oven and I had a more Carrie Bradshaw-based relationship up until this point.
Good news, after 5 years I have become a decent cook and my craving for new experiences came back stronger than ever post-pandemic.
And now we are here.
Welcome to Pickled
Pickled is an embodiment of the things that continue to create my full life - fresh perspective and great food, no matter where you are.
I dream that other creators will have the opportunity to share their stories and recommendations on this platform, but for now I am going to share mine.
You can expect location-based food guides (and probably other unsolicited recommendations), recipes inspired by both ingredients and places, and hopefully some laughs.
This space has been created to preserve places and plates. Welcome to the Pickled community.
